24 Hour PH Metry
24-hour PH metry with impedance testing: Many patients suffer from heartburn, chest pain, and acid reflux and chronic cough. Gastro esophageal reflux disease may be the common cause in these patients. In patients with GERD, gastric acid moves upward in the esophagus. Upper GI endoscopy often the initial test, however may be normal. 24 hour pH study is the gold standard is to diagnose the disease. During pH study, a small catheter is introduced through the nose in the esophagus. This catheter, has pH sensors. Whenever gastric acid moves up in the esophagus, this will be sensed and information will be gathered in data recorder over the next 24 hours. The information is retrieved and diagnosis is reached. It is a sophisticated yet simple test than can be done as an outpatient procedure.
